Special Education Specialist EC–12 (186)

Registration for the new Special Education Specialist EC–12 (186) exam is now open for testing beginning September 1, 2025. The Special Education Specialist EC–12 (186) exam will replace the Special Education EC–12 (161) and Special Education Supplemental (163) exams. The last administration of these exams will be August 31, 2025.

Format

Computer-administered test (CAT) with 90 selected-response questions and 1 constructed-response question

Time

5 hours total appointment time

15 minutes for CAT tutorial and compliance agreement
4 hours and 45 minutes testing time
